FREEWAY BLOGGER TO POST ONE HUNDRED PROTEST SIGNS ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FREEWAYS ON SEP 7, 2004

One Man. One Day. More Than 2 Million People Reached.

Southern CA— On Tuesday, Sept. 7th, the Freeway Blogger will post one hundred signs on Southern California freeways throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties protesting the war in Iraq and the failure to find Osama Bin Laden. The lone activist has posted over 2,000 hand-painted signs on California freeways since the war began.

“Freeway signposting is the last venue open to the average individual to express themselves directly to their fellow citizens.” the activist said. “Every other means of mass-communication - print, radio and television – is subject to the control of corporate interests. When you put a sign up on the freeway though, it says exactly what you want it to say.”

Previous messages posted by the Freeway Blogger include, “Osama Bin Forgotten”; “Quagmire Accomplished”; “Rumsfailed”; and “Real Soldiers are Dying in their Hummers so You can Play Soldier in Yours.”

Examples of the Freeway Blogger’s work can be seen at http://www.freewayblogger.com.

"When the Founding Fathers gave us the right to free speech they did it for a reason, not just as window-dressing. I believe that at least part of that reason was to give every citizen the ability to sound the alarm when they felt their democracy was in danger, and I think ours is." said the Freeway Blogger, citing policy decisions that “have served only to alienate our friends and multiply our enemies.”

“The gravest threat to our democracy comes from people thinking they don’t have a voice. When I put a sign on the freeway I want people to think not just about what it says, but that one of their fellow citizens felt they had the right to say it.”
