Divide Iraq:
It's like a civil war
but without the killing.

For awhile
now I've been wondering why more attention hasn't been
given to a three state solution for Iraq: simply divide
it into Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish territories and, with
a little guidance, let them sort things out among
themselves. Positive aspects of such a plan include
1) It's
peaceful.
2) It's
what the Iraqis want.
And 3)
It's gonna happen anyway.

I'm familiar
with most of the arguments against partition: the Turks
don't want a free Kurdistan, Iran would co-opt the Shiites
and gain too much power in the region, the Sunnis don't have
any oil, etc., etc. While I'll admit I don't have all the
answers, (most of them, but not all,) I'd like to
emphasize that what I'm trying to accomplish with this
project is not the actual partitioning of Iraq, which I
couldn't possibly do, but rather to get millions of people
to think about partitioning Iraq, which is
relatively easy. |

The
signs are easy to make, clear and to the point and since
they're entirely non-partisan, they stay up for days.
Because
of this, it shouldn't take more than a couple hundred of us
to get the whole nation thinking about dividing Iraq over
the next couple of weeks.
